When a top NBA player’s contract with a brand is about to come to an end, one can expect a war between companies to erupt. Well, this is exactly what happened when Kevin Durant’s Nike deal was nearing its expiration in 2014.
Under Armour swooped in to try to steal Kevin from the company that brought us the iconic swoosh logo as the seven-year contract of the power forward for the Brooklyn Nets with Nike was at its closing stages. Apparently, Under Armour approached the basketball player with a 10-year contract that’s worth anywhere between $265 million and $285 million. However, Nike didn’t take that sitting down: it’s said that the shoe giant offered Kevin a proposition that had the potential to reach a whopping $300 million plus an awesome retirement package.
Well, we all know how that contract war ended: Kevin still being with Nike. Currently, his latest signature shoe is the Nike KD 12 which is heavily inspired by the ’90s, an era that the premier athlete is very fond of.
