The Brands
JORDAN BRAND
If there a sneaker brand that was born out of the National Basketball Association, it is no other than the Michael Jordan Brand.
The Jordan Brand has been a very popular sneaker brand for NBA players. The Air Jordan shoes have been synonymous to NBA greatness and players, both veterans and rookies, wanted to have their share of history.
Currently, LaMarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony, Jimmy Butler, Mike Conley Jr., Blake Griffin, Maya Moore, Chris Paul, Jayson Tatum, Kemba Walker and Russell Westbrook are some of the professional basketball players who represent Jordan Brand.
Rookie Zion Williamson secured a $75 million deal early this season while Maverick superstar Luka Doncic is expected to sign soon.
ADIDAS
Adidas has been Nike’s toughest competitor when it comes to NBA basketball shoes. The popularity of Damian Lillard’s “Dame” series is hard to beat, while James Harden’s “Harden Vol” series also taking the spotlight.
Aside from Lillard and Harden, notable players who wore and/or signed with Adidas includes Kyle Lowry, Tim Duncan, Ty lawson, Eric Gordon, Jaylen Brown, Brook Lopez, Austin Rivers, Ricky Rubio, Kyle Anderson, and Tony Snell to name a few.
Adidas may just be second to Nike but it’s newer designed are slowly taking over a huge part of the sneaker market.
Outside the NBA, there are Adidas designed that are just aesthetically superior compared to common Nike models. This is what makes Adidas unique.
NIKE
Nike is the leading NBA sneaker brand and has been dominating the sports even before Michael Jordan entered the league during the late ’80s.
Nike, with its number of signature brands, is always the top choice of most of the NBA superstars. Not to mention that the Jordan Brand is under Nike, players who preferred to sign directly with the company and have their own signature sneakers include but not limited to LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Paul George, and Anthony Davis to name a few, with Lebron and Kobe series among the most popular NBA sneakers worn by many NBA players today.
Nike is active not only in the NBA but also in other sports like both American and European football, tennis, golf, baseball, and even cricket.
Although Adidas is trying its best to catch-up, Nike should never worry about its domination.
UNDER ARMOUR
Under Armour was almost forgotten until NBA superstar Stephen Curry signed a 10+ years mega-deal worth at least $285 million.
Yes, that’s a lot of money for a shoe brand but Curry’s popularity has skyrocketed Under Armour sales not only in shoes but also other clothing lines like shirts, caps, and accessories.
Under Armour might not be as popular as Nike and Adidas but the fact that the company successfully sealed a deal with one of the most prolific scorers in the league definitely means something.
Some notable players who wear Under Armour include but not limited to Patty Mills, Raymond Felton, Kent Bazemore, Cole Aldrich, Delon Wright, and Will Barton.
REEBOK
Not many NBA players wear Reebok anymore but the previously popular brand is actually the lifesaver of Hall of Fame player Allen Iverson.
During his playing career, Iverson signed a lifetime deal with Reebok and when his life turned upside down, his Reebok deal reportedly became his only source of income.
Recent players who wore Reebok include Ramon Sessions, Jason Terry, and Andre Miller. Although Reebok has not seen much of action in the NBA, it is still a popular athletic apparel brand.
Boston Celtics’ General Manager Danny Ainge wore Reebok during his playing career
